Love and Your Career

December 3, 2017

Hi, it’s Jalyn.  Back again with another teaching on the Fruit of the Spirit and how it can help you achieve your purpose and enjoy your life.  We are still on the topic of the first fruit, which is Love.  And today I want to talk about how love impacts your career.

In the previous blog, I shared with you two key lessons about love, one of which was the fact that love is our life force.  It’s what gives us the power to create, experience, engage, innovate, connect and to live a meaningful life.

That being said, I’m going to kick things off tonight with a confession: I am tired!  Like…tired.  I have a full-time career as an HR Manager, I have a business that I’m trying to keep alive, I have a book that I finished months ago but still need publish and get out to the public, community service with the boys and girls club…on top of that… I have to slap makeup on my face for these videos.  I’m tired.  And the only thing that is keeping me going right now is the love I have for everything that I do.  All the things I just mentioned have formed, what I affectionately refer to as, my career.  And I work hard every day.

Now let’s be honest here.  Many people simply work to pay the bills.  And there isn’t anything wrong with taking care of yourself and your family. But so many people simply go through the motions of working day after day after day.  I know because I used to be one of them.  I stopped doing that because I felt the life being drained out of me.  And since I stopped doing that, I had to start doing something else.  I had to start showing people why I was here on earth.

So, let me introduce myself:  My name is Jalyn and I do a great job of creating effective resources that people can use to accomplish their goals.  If you need a specific system, a process, or routine – I’m the one for the job.

Now it’s your turn.  Ask yourself what you are known for doing extremely well.

Now this may take a little bit of self-reflection - especially if you have never stated it out loud before.  That’s OK, take all the time you need because it is critical for you to understand how you create and add value to your work environment because that is what love looks like in your career.  It leads to self-excellence, diligence, going above and beyond to drive for results.  Your career is not your title, status, salary or job description.  They are not what makes the difference – YOU make the difference.  And you have to answer how you will make that difference each and every day.

People should be able to perceive your personal brand at work.  You honor God when you are productive each day and respect the people who are in authority over you. You honor God when you excel in your career.

Actions speak louder than words. When you give your very best in the workplace, your whole life is giving praise to God. You honor God when you are productive each day and respect the people who are in authority over you. You honor God when you excel in your career.
Actions speak louder than words. When you give your very best in the workplace, your whole life is giving praise to God. You show honor to yourself, family and this world when you are productive each day and you excel at the work in front of you.  If you are not excelling, then you need to make a shift.  Shifting isn’t always easy, but it is worth it.  Sometimes people are reluctant to shift because they are afraid of the unknown.  I’m guilty of it as well.  I’m going through it right now.  And when I feel it welling up inside of me, I must remind myself that it is always in my best interest to operate from a place of love instead of fear.

You have to do it from a place a love because your career is your purpose in life.  And purpose is the way you are uniquely equipped to positively impact this world.

And you may be saying to yourself…well, this isn’t my career and it certainly isn’t my purpose in life.  Guess what, the rules don’t change.  Still give it your all because you may not be exactly where you want to be, but doing your best will always be a step in the right direction.  You never know who is watching or what opportunities may pass you by while you try to do the bare minimum to get by in life.  So, show your career some love.  When you operate from a place a love, the company, title, salary and status will rise to your standards.  And…this is the most important part, you produce more Good Fruit in your life.

I would love to hear your thoughts on how love, purpose and career impact each other.  Share your comments below.  I want to hear from you.
